New to EFT/tapping?

In Clinical EFT sessions, I coach you through tapping on your own acupressure points, which calms your nervous system as you process difficult memories, emotions, and beliefs. In our sessions, I will tap right along with you, so even if it feels funny at first, we’ll always be tapping together. I’ve created a short video so you can see the basic tapping points that we will use in our coaching sessions.

To live with joy, purpose, and vitality requires paying attention to one’s own body, mind, and spirit and how these dimensions of ourselves are interrelated. Holistic health is a journey that begins in genuine self-compassion and extends outward to a life of love and generosity. When trauma, life transitions, challenging situations, and illness disrupt our sense of wellbeing, we can draw on tools and practices from many different fields to help us find our way through to the next chapter of our lives. My coaching practice is based on the evidence-based tools and practices that I have found to be the most effective in my life, healing, and leadership experience. On this page, you will find responses to some of the most common questions people ask about Compassionate Way’s coaching services. Frequently Asked Questions

  • Emotional Freedom Technique, or EFT, often known as "tapping," is a unique approach that combines gentle tapping on specific acupressure points with focused emotional awareness. You tap on yourself, and I tap along with you on my own body. This simple yet effective technique can help you release emotional baggage, alleviate stress and anxiety, and promote emotional well-being. Whether you're seeking relief from daily stressors, aiming to overcome past traumas, or looking to enhance your overall emotional resilience, EFT offers a path to inner balance and freedom.

  • Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a promising healing modality with a growing body of research supporting its effectiveness in addressing various emotional and psychological challenges. From anxiety and PTSD to chronic pain and performance anxiety, EFT offers a holistic and non-invasive way to promote emotional well-being and alleviate distress, making it a valuable tool in the realm of integrative and alternative therapies.

    1. Reducing Anxiety: Research conducted by Wells et al. (2013) explored the effectiveness of EFT in reducing anxiety levels. Participants who received EFT sessions showed significant reductions in anxiety compared to a control group. This study highlights EFT's potential to alleviate symptoms of anxiety disorders.

    2. Managing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): A study by Church et al. (2013) examined the impact of EFT on veterans suffering from PTSD. The results demonstrated significant reductions in PTSD symptoms after just a few EFT sessions. This research underscores the promise of EFT as a complementary therapy for trauma-related conditions.

    3. Relieving Chronic Pain: EFT has also been investigated for its potential in managing chronic pain. A study by Gaesser et al. (2016) found that participants who practiced EFT experienced notable reductions in pain intensity and reported improvements in their overall quality of life. This suggests that EFT can be an effective non-pharmacological approach to pain management.

    4. Enhancing Emotional Well-Being: EFT isn't limited to treating specific conditions; it also aims to improve overall emotional well-being. A study by Nelms and Castel (2016) explored the use of EFT to enhance emotional regulation in healthy individuals. The results indicated that regular EFT practice could lead to increased emotional resilience and a greater sense of emotional freedom.

    5. Improving Performance Anxiety: Performance anxiety is a common issue, particularly among athletes and musicians. A study by Clifton et al. (2018) investigated the impact of EFT on performance anxiety in musicians. The findings revealed that EFT interventions significantly reduced performance anxiety, enabling musicians to perform at their best with greater confidence.

  • Tapping with the help of a Certified Clinical EFT Practitioner helps you identify specific events and experiences from your own life that may be contributing to ongoing limiting beliefs, behavioral patterns, habits, pain, and emotional distress. Working within the safety of a clinical EFT session, you can begin to process unresolved emotions, shift patterns of reactivity, calm your nervous system, and rewire your brain to experience more emotional freedom. Clinical EFT Practitioners are trained in over 40 techniques to help you heal faster and more completely.

  • Certified Clinical EFT Practitioners are coaches not therapists. They do not diagnose conditions or provide mental or physical therapies. The coach-client relationship is a peer-to-peer relationship, and the coach’s role is to help the client access their own wisdom and healing capacities.

  • Menstruators can get a rough estimate of where they are in the timeline with some basic math. Age of your first period + 40 is the average age of menopause (defined as going 12 months without a period). For the sake of an example, let’s say you started your period at age 12. 12+40=52. Then subtract 10 to estimate the age at which you might enter the stage of perimenopause. In this example 52-10=42. Perimenopause lasts for about 10 years. The stage after menopause day is called postmenopause, which lasts for the rest of your life.

  • A Menopause Doula provides essential support and guidance to individuals navigating the transitions from premenopause to perimenopause and through menopause to postmenopause. Their scope of practice includes emotional and educational support, helping clients understand the physical and emotional changes associated with this life stage, and building a Menopausing Toolkit to help reduce symptoms and adopt habits that promote healthy aging. Menopause Doulas offer a safe space for open dialogue, assisting individuals in coping with symptoms such as hot flashes, mood swings, sleep disturbances, and fatigue. They empower clients to make informed decisions about their health, including options for hormone therapy and complementary therapies. Additionally, Menopause Doulas may help clients explore holistic approaches to well-being, including nutrition, exercise, and stress management. Their role extends to advocacy, ensuring clients' unique needs are respected and addressed within healthcare settings.

  • EFT is quite effective with children and teens and tends to work even faster for them. Before working with a child or teen, I would first do a session with a parent or guardian and have a conversation about whether this would be a good fit for the child/teen.

  • Since my business is registered in the State of Minnesota, I follow Minnesota state law, which has a Client Bill of Rights for Complementary and Alternative Medicine. You can read more about it here.
